¿Qué es un brillómetro?
Un brillómetro es un dispositivo de medición para la determinación del brillo en diferentes materiales. Durante la medición, el brillómetro emite una luz que se refleja en la superficie. Dependiendo del nivel de brillo, la superficie absorbe parte de la luz y refleja el resto. El lector del brillómetro mide la luz reflejada, calcula el grado de brillo y lo muestra claramente en la pantalla.
Los medidores de brillo se utilizan habitualmente en la fabricación como medida de control de calidad para garantizar que los distintos productos que tengan el mismo aspecto. De este modo, se evitan las reclamaciones y los costos asociados. Además, se respeta o mejora la reputación externa de las empresas con una calidad constante y productos consistentes.
¿Por qué Glidecoat ofrece un medidor de brillo?
Desde 2015, la red de profesionales certificados de Glidecoat ha aplicado nuestros revestimientos a una gran variedad de embarcaciones, desde un Brass Tracker de 14′ hasta Mega Yates de más de 100′. En las primeras etapas de desarrollo de nuestro revestimiento cerámico, nuestros cliente querían medir y validar la eficacia del revestimiento.
Para la mayoría de las empresas de revestimiento cerámico, la respuesta típica es utilizar medidas cualitativas, como, por ejemplo, comprobar el reborde del agua o las láminas (dependiendo del tipo de revestimiento cerámico) y los niveles de brillo. Ambos son puntos válidos y fácilmente identificables; sin embargo, todo el mundo tendrá diferentes expectativas y opiniones sobe el rendimiento del producto. Queríamos un sistema mejor para tranquilizar a los clientes y proporcionar datos reales que eliminaran las interpretaciones personales.

Medidores de brillo en el proceso de propuesta e inspección inicial
Un beneficio inesperado del uso del medidor de brillo ha sido ayudar a simplificar el proceso de propuesta con los nuevos clientes y nuestros profesionales certificados. Recomendamos encarecidamente inspeccionar la embarcación para ofrecer un presupuesto preciso. Como parte de la inspección, el profesional certificado tomará numerosas lecturas del medidor de brillo en toda la embarcación para obtener una instantánea del estado inicial de la misma.
Durante la conversación inicial con el propietario de una embarcación que está evaluando una aplicación de revestimiento cerámico marino, el tema del precio suele surgir al principio de la conversación. Dado que la mayor parte del tiempo se dedica a la preparación de la superficie para el revestimiento, las embarcaciones con lecturas iniciales del medidor de brillo extremadamente bajas y con una oxidación severa pagará una tarifa más alta por pie que una embarcación nueva de fábrica con una oxidación mínima o nula presente en la superficie.

Gloss Meter Readings and Level of Preparation
After completing over 1000’s of ceramic coating applications through our Certified Pro Network, we notice a consistent trend in the level of preparation required based on the varying gloss meter readings.
Here is a helpful chart that demonstrates the typical level of preparation required based on the various gloss meter readings:

- Factory new gel coat will typically read between 82 – 88 on the gloss meter
- Painted surfaces usually register 3 – 5% higher than gel coat
- The gloss meter is utilized by a number of different industries to check the gloss of the surface. The reader can register numbers as high as 200. 200 gloss meter readings are more applicable to glossy printer paper. Whereas, in the marine industry, we noticed the typical numbers will go as low as 1 – 2 and as high 105.

Glidecoat Pro Warranty
Following the application of a surface coating, the Certified Pro will take multiple gloss meter readings across the entire boat. Routinely, these final gloss meter readings show shine levels that are back to or better than factory new. Because we have these final gloss meter results, we can provide a product warranty that guarantees gloss meter readings will not decrease by more than 30% in the 18 months following application. Realistically, the gloss meter readings will only drop by approximately 10-20% in 18 months, but this is highly dependent on boat usage, maintenance, as well as other factors.
