    The Ultimate in Surface Protection

Keeping your motorcycle clean and shiny is a point of pride for many owners. But motorcycles have a unique set of challenges for even the most accomplished detailers – the variety of surfaces, the contours and hard to reach areas, high temperature surfaces, not to mention bugs, grease, road grime and other environmental contaminants. Glidecoat has developed our Motorcycle Ceramic Coating with the DIY enthusiast in mind – one coating that can be used on all hard surfaces, is easy to apply and maintain, and offers unmatched protection against UV, corrosion, staining, road contaminants and more.

Glidecoat has had extensive field testing under extreme usage by accredited independent laboratories and has been proven to provide at least 3 years of protection under even the harshest conditions. Furthermore, under “average conditions” and through proper maintenance and aftercare, the results from our ceramic coating, in some cases, have exceeded this 3 year minimum.

    Easy to apply:
Our motorcycle ceramic coating is designed for the DIY user. It doesn’t require any specialized equipment to apply such as sprayers, machine applicators, or heat/UV lamps to cure. Simply wipe on with the included application sponge and then immediately buff with a clean microfiber cloth. Allow 24-48 hours to cure before getting wet and your bike will be protected for 3 years.

    Glidecoat ceramic vs wax:
While wax is the traditional method of surface protection, the truth of the matter is that wax loses its surface functionality in a matter of weeks. Wax simply sits on the surface and is easily removed through abrasion. This means that every time you wash your bike or take it for a ride, some of the wax is removed. Most manufacturers recommend waxing 3-5 times a year under average conditions. Most bikers don’t wax this often, either because of the effort involved, or because they think the wax is still working.

In addition, wax melts away at little over 100°F. If you live in an area with higher temperatures (90°F or above) or have a darker colored motorcycle, your bike is barely being protected against the heat from the sun, so it is certainly no match for high temperature surfaces, such as your bike’s exhaust. Functions such as UV blocking and stain resistance are the first to fail and then continue to diminish sharply. This means your bike is being left exposed to the elements and the surface is slowly deteriorating, fading and corroding.

Glidecoat Motorcycle Ceramic Coating protects and preserve the integrity of your bike’s surface, far outperforming traditional wax products. Once the motorcycle top coating is applied, it bonds directly with the surface of your bike to create a long-lasting hard coating. This allows the coating to protect your bike for up to 3 years (longer depending on storage, usage and aftercare). Our ceramic coating is also resistant to temperatures up to 1100°F. This allows you to coat high temperature surfaces such as exposed engine parts and exhaust pipes protecting them from stains, UV damage and corrosion.

    Apply to all surfaces:
Compared to a car, which is largely painted surfaces with clear coat, a motorcycle has a larger variety of surfaces that need to be protected – painted panels, tanks, plastic trim, glass, chrome forks, rims, and metal frames. You need a coating that is versatile enough to meet the challenges of each of these surfaces.

In addition, many of these surfaces, such as exposed engine components or exhaust pipes, are high temperature surfaces. Glidecoat Motorcycle Ceramic Coating is designed to withstand high temperatures (1100°F/600°C) and can be used to protect even the hottest surfaces.

    Maintenance:
One of the most common misinterpretations of a ceramic coating is that they are maintenance free, or your motorcycle will not get dirty if it has a ceramic coating. That is simply not the case. That being said, the main benefit of having a ceramic coating is that your ongoing maintenance is much easier and more effective (with less effort) than using a traditional wax or sealant. We can all agree, less time cleaning and more time riding is a win.

Because the ceramic coating creates an extremely hydrophobic and super slick surface, most stains and contaminants are easily cleaned from the surface with a quick rinse. You will no longer need harsh chemicals and soaps to clean your bike. Simply wash with a gentle pH neutral soap, like our Glidecoat Nano Wash or Glidecoat Ceraglo and a microfiber wash mitt or soft bristled brush.

In addition to ease of cleaning, the coating will last 3 years (longer depending on storage and aftercare) which is 10-15x longer than wax. That means much less time spent buffing and applying wax.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS SUPPLIED WITH ALL GLIDECOAT PRODUCTS.

  • Benefits

    Benefits

The benefits of Glidecoat’s Motorcycle Ceramic Coating include:

    • Hard-barrier: Once the coating cures, it forms a hard barrier to protect your bike from minor abrasions.
    • Bonds with the surface: Our coating actually fills the pores of the surface allowing the coating to bond with the surface. This prevents the coating from washing away or removal from abrasion.
    • Multi-surface protection: Can be applied to paint, plastic, chrome, metal, glass and more. This allows you to protect all of the hard surfaces of your bike including the paintwork, exhaust, chrome, forks, panels, frame and rims.
    • Reflects UV: The coating reflects harmful UV which prevents sun damage, fading and oxidization.
    • Long-lasting: The coating will last up to 36 months even in extreme conditions – 10 times longer than wax, Teflon coatings or paint protection coatings.
    • Heat resistant: Unlike wax, our ceramic coating can withstand temperatures up to 1100°F (600°C) and is not susceptible to heat and will not melt or evaporate.
    • High-gloss finish: The coating creates an ultra high-gloss finish which shines better than new. Especially important for chrome surfaces that dull easily.
    • Clear and vibrant: The ceramic coating remains clear and will not yellow over time. This ensures the colors and graphics will stay vibrant.
    • Easy to clean: The coating creates a super smooth hydrophobic surface which repels contaminants. Simply spray down and wipe dry to remove any bugs or road dirt.
    • Easy re-application: Future coats can be applied without having to remove previous ceramic coating applications.
    • Increased visibility: Coating the glass of your motorcycle or the visor of your helmet reduces the build up of road contaminants and bugs and because it is hydrophobic, water beads off, increasing visibility in the rain.
    • Cost: Over the life of the coating, ceramic is much less expensive than paint and corrosion repairs. Also reduces amount of wax and cleaning products required to maintain your motorcycle.
  • Application Instructions

    Application Instructions:

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS SUPPLIED WITH ALL GLIDECOAT PRODUCTS.

    • Prior to starting the Ceramic Coating application process, ensure that the surface of your motorcycle has been fully prepped. This includes polishing and compounding and removing any oxidization or making any repairs necessary. The ceramic coating will lock in any imperfections on the surface of your motorcycle, so it is important that you are happy with the surface before coating.
    • Before coating, ensure the engine and exhaust are cool to the touch. Remove the seat, saddlebags, or any surfaces that you don’t wish to get wet. Cover any other areas that can’t easily be removed to protect them.
    • Pre-rinse the bike with water to remove any lose dirt. This helps minimize the chances of adding swirls or scratches to the surface.
    • Thoroughly wash the entire motorcycle using Glidecoat Nano Wash. Start by cleaning the rims and tires using the two-bucket method.
    • Once the bike has been cleaned and rinsed, we recommend a Glidecoat Iron Remover treatment to remove all contamination from the surface of the paint. This must be done while the bike is wet. Let the Iron Remover dwell on the surface for 5-10 minutes and then soap wash the bike one more time.
    • Thoroughly dry the bike using a clean microfiber towel. You may also use a leaf blower to expedite the dry process and help dry hard to reach areas. Always dry completely and never leave to “air” dry. Tap water contains minerals that may leave deposits or water spots when left to dry.
    • After the motorcycle’s surface has been fully prepared – remove oxidization, contaminants, and wash, clay bar – Start by wiping down the area to be coated with Glidecoat Surface Wipe. This product acts as a decontaminant removing any polish, compound or other products left on the surface. This allows the ceramic coating to penetrate into the pores.
    • Apply a dime-sized drop of the product to the center of the application sponge. Apply in 2’ by 2’ areas, using a cross-hatch pattern. Once applied, immediately buff with a microfiber towel to remove any excess and then re-buff with a separate clean microfiber.
    • Do not wait after application across that 2’ x 2’ area. Immediately buff or the surface will become difficult to buff and cause streaking.
    • Once the first microfiber becomes damp or causes streaking, replace it immediately. Do not apply in direct sunlight. Ideal application conditions should have an air temperature between 50°F (10°C) up to 90°F (32°C). The less humidity the better.
    • Apply to all areas of the bike. Apply a second coat after 1 hour.
    • In heavily sun exposed or high temperature areas of the bike, we suggest 3 coats.
  • Maintenance Guide

Ceramic coatings have become increasingly popular over the past few years, but even with the popularity of ceramic coatings there is still a lot of misinformation about coatings and what they can do.

Ceramic coatings are one of, if not the best product to protect and preserve the integrity of your surface, far superior to traditional wax and sealants. One of the most common misinterpretations of a ceramic coating is that they are almost maintenance free, or your boat/car/RV/motorcycle will not get dirty if it has a ceramic coating. That is simply not the case.

While ceramic coatings are extremely durable, they require ongoing maintenance to ensure that you are getting the full benefits and protection out of your ceramic coating. With that being said, the main benefit of having a ceramic coating is that your ongoing maintenance is much easier and more effective (with less effort) than using a traditional wax or sealant.

The following will explain how to properly maintain your ceramic coating to ensure you are getting the most out of your ceramic coating, and properly protect your investment.

    INITIAL APPLICATION MAINTENANCE
After the application of our Ceramic Coating, it is important to let the coating fully cure before getting the wet. A full cure of our ceramic coatings is between 24-48 hours. If the boat/car/RV/motorcycle gets wet or rained on during the curing process, dry as soon as possible, and avoid leaving water to air dry to prevent potential water spots on the surface.

Allow a minimum of 48 hours before washing to ensure the coating has fully cured.

    ONGOING MAINTENANCE
After the coating has fully cured, we recommend the ongoing maintenance of rinsing (and drying) regularly, bi-weekly washes, and spot cleaning as needed.

Ongoing maintenance is an important factor in ensuring that you get the most benefits from your ceramic coating. If a coating is too dirty, this layer of contamination (salt, dirt, bird droppings, water spots) will diminish the stain resistance and hydrophobic properties of the ceramic coating, making it more difficult to clean, defeating the main purpose of a ceramic coating.

Here are some general guidelines for ongoing maintenance of your ceramic coating:

    • Rinse regularly to remove contaminants from the surface. We highly recommend drying after rinsing, and avoid letting the water air dry, which may cause water spots. If you cannot access the area to dry, we recommend using a stream of water (not a spray nozzle) to remove contaminants while not leaving excess water on the surface that could cause water spots.
    • Bi-weekly washes (every two weeks) with Glidecoat Nano Wash or Glidecoat Ceraglo. Avoid using high pH soaps such as Dawn dish soap, or soaps that contain heavy cleaners or degreasers. These soaps won’t harm the coating after a few uses, but continual use of aggressive soaps and cleaners will expediate the wear of the top layer of coating. This will diminish and reduce the protective qualities of the ceramic coating, as well as reduce the longevity of the coating. Glidecoat Ceraglo is the perfect after care soap for you ceramic coating. Ceraglo is a polymer infused soap designed to increase the gloss of the surface while leaving a layer of protection on top of the ceramic coating to promote the longevity.
    • Avoid using stiff bristled brushes or abrasive washing tools.
    • Use a microfiber wash mitt or a soft bristled brush when washing.
    • Dry with a microfiber drying cloth or a clean chamois.

    SPOT CLEANING MAINTENANCE
In between your bi-weekly washes you may need to do some spot cleaning. Whether it’s salt build up, water spots from the rain, or bird droppings, we recommend cleaning them as you see them to make your ongoing maintenance that much easier.

Here are some general guidelines for spot cleaning:

    • For excess salt buildup we recommend using Glidecoat X-Salt to safely remove the salt without harming the ceramic coating. Simply spray X-Salt on the surface, allow it to dwell for 5-10 minutes, then rinse it off. X-Salt can also be added to your wash bucket with Glidecoat Nano Wash or Glidecoat Ceraglo to help remove stubborn salt buildup while you wash.
    • If you are having issues with hard water spots we recommend using Glidecoat WaterSpot Remover to safely remove hard water spots without harming the ceramic coating. Simply spray Glidecoat WaterSpot Remover onto the surface, wipe it in with a microfiber cloth, allow it to dwell for 2-3 minutes then wipe it off with a clean microfiber cloth.
    • When spot cleaning bird droppings or small stains we recommend using a waterless wash of <Glidecoat Surface Wipe with a microfiber cloth. Avoid using excessive force when removing stains.

    QUARTERLY MAINTENANCE
In addition to ongoing maintenance and spot cleaning, ceramic coatings benefit from a maintenance spray every 3-4 months in southern states or once a season in northern states, such as <Glidecoat’s Shine and Shield Ceramic Spray. Shine and Shield will enhance the shine and hydrophobic effect of the surface, while adding an additional layer of protection on top of the ceramic coating to promote longevity.

Shine and Shield is a simple spray on, wipe off application.

Here are some general guidelines for applying Shine and Shield for quarterly maintenance:

    • Shine and Shield can be applied as needed to add gloss and water beading to the surface.
    • Do not apply Shine and Shield to a dirty surface, always clean/wash the area first before applying.
    • Shine and Shield can be applied to a wet surface, allowing you to dry the surface while leaving some protection behind.
    • We recommend using two microfibers when applying Shine and Shield, using the first microfiber to buff the surface while using a second clean microfiber to ensure the surface is smooth and uniform.
    • Shine and Shield can be layered with multiple coats for enhanced protection, allow a minimum of 30 minutes between each coat.

    ANNUAL MAINTENANCE
An annual maintenance typically consists of a decontamination wash with Glidecoat Iron Remover to remove contamination from the surface that could be impacting the hydrophobic properties of the ceramic coating. After the Iron Remover, wash with Glidecoat Nano Wash or Glidecoat Ceraglo. Inspect the coated areas to ensure that the ceramic coating is holding up as expected. If any areas are not beading water, but still have a good shine, apply Shine and Shield to restore the hydrophobic activity on the surface.

If any of the high sun exposed areas have significantly diminished in gloss it may require a light polish to restore the shine and have one additional coat of the ceramic coating applied.
